I like a good pop song. Such songs have a way of refreshing the tired ears of a reviewer and “Not The One” is such a song and, once again, Glasgow’s Laura Healy shows that she can write songs that people would actually want to listen to and perhaps even sing along with. Neatly balancing her voice against a muted yet insistent guitar keeps things interesting in this - dare I say jaunty? – facets of love type song. To be honest, it is exactly the kind of song that Ms Healy does well.
While I’m at it, I’ll even manage some kind words for “Lost At Sea” as well. It doesn’t quite put a smile on your face like “Not The One” does but, with its subtle Celtic influences, you could imagine Maeve O’Boyle or even Amy Macdonald taking it upon themselves to purloin it for their own purposes. Sweet!
