When you think about it, it is actually obvious. Music has no real value to people but they will pay for a videogame to fuel the insatiable hunger of their Xbox or PS3 for yet more deeply meaningful first person shoot ‘em ups. A smart band would therefore skip the usual routes to success and instead try to give the games industry what they want from a soundtrack. Hey, it’s that or stack shelves at Tesco so no argument on financial grounds from me.
So with this four track EP, Bournemouth hardcore five piece band In Your Honour have produced the kind of songs that the dearly loved games industry would gladly take into their next blockbuster. Admittedly there are moments where melody and metal get mixed effectively such as “The Worst Is Yet To Come” but the rest is simply loud and unadventurous with some serious, indeed critical in this particular genre, limitations in the guitar department. The crude production doesn’t help much but the lack of musical adventure must solely be down to the band.
