The appliance of science?  An excuse for having a hangover when you haven’t had anything to drink? Perhaps just enough time to say no to drugs? Or perhaps it is just Papaye’s album “La Chaleur”. This was going to be a tough one to review but, as it turned out, an easy one to reach a conclusion on.

There’s little point in picking out the good songs for a start as none of them are much more than experimental extemporisations. With no words and precious little in the way of melody to guide a listener’s ear, this band take the lazy way out and play what could be called avant garde jazz in a rock and roll format. Only there isn’t even a hint of musical virtuosity to back that particular hypothesis up.

The conclusion? “La Chaleur” is another album of second rate musicians indulging themselves.  Dull is too kind a word for this pretentious crap.
