Right, singer songwriter time again with Glasgow’s Gillian Christie releasing her single “Poorly Hidden Secret”. Her name is familiar but I can’t really recall if I’ve encountered Ms Christie before but a few lines in and it all comes back to me.

You see, Ms Christie has a rather distinctive way with words and, for one so young, a notably cynical approach to affairs of the heart.  “Poorly Hidden Secret” addresses the problems that come with being the “other woman” and does so with a curiously effective mix of sentiment and vitriol with “…I’d kidnap you if I could” summing it all up nicely.

There’s a lot to like and amuse in the acerbic wit that finds a home in Ms Christie’s lyrics but, nonetheless, the end result sounds more like a bedroom demo rather than a commercial release.

Available for download.
