One thing is for certain. Despite the fact that the Savage Sound System are a Scottish collective there is nothing parochial about them and , barring the occasional lapse into local accent for some somewhat embarrassingly MCing, they could easily be from Brooklyn.

As you might expect of a collective effort, standards vary throughout this album with MC Riddah’s woeful effort of “I Keep On Rollin” being an excruciating example of pseudo gangsta (no doubt brought on by Pilton not being quite as inspirational as South Central LA). However, there is, fortunately, much better to be found on this album such as the relentless lo-fi brutality of “Another Bay” featuring the wondrous Sacre Noir on vocals and Jordan Moncrieff’s star turn bringing life to the urban electro of “New Town.  The primitive, and riff stealing, “Rushing to Play in the Bricks Again” works pretty well too and there’s a hint of Simian Mobile Disco providing the required seasoning to “Those Tears Come Cheap”.

All in all, the good outweighs the bad and anything featuring Sacre Noir will get my vote anyway.
