What the world needs now is…indie rock. Sarcasm aside, it is indeed hard to see why the world needs another indie rock band and young Welsh band Vvolves pretty much prove that point with “Birds in Berlin”, the first song on this EP.  Sure, there are some nice Joe Meek touches to the production but that brash, guitar heavy sound is more than a bit last Tuesday.

There are positive signs of a band on the up and up though and they play a much stronger card with “Sailing From Youth” that spins up the atmosphere like overcharged eighties rock bands used to – I don’t think the collective ages of this band would even add up to 80 – before the winning card lands on the table with “Wolves” being a stylistic redirection towards Euro style electro rock and a successful one at that. The thumbs up is duly given.

Also available on 10” vinyl.
