I don’t know about you but I love a bargain and there is no better bargain than one that doesn’t cost anything.  So and verily, a search of the Internet thingy uncovered this endearing (and free) curiosity from Adam Stafford, former lead singer with the now departed Y'all is Fantasy Island.

This is an interesting mini album that doesn’t quite fit into any particular genre and its charms number aplenty. Perhaps it is too simplistic – or perhaps not – to categorise the selection of songs, from the Handsome Family’s “Tin Foil” to a deadly deadpan version of The Police’s “Invisible Sun”, as something of a homage to the loss of a band much like that mixtape you made for that girl who broke your heart when you were at art college.

From that you will gather that there are not many laughs here but there will, or at least should be a place for music as serious and considered as is presented here. The end result seems small on the big speakers but fits perfectly to your headphones when Mr Stafford’s voice joins with Louise Hendry’s harmonies just like they were two peas in a pod. Whilst certainly melancholic, “Music in the Mirabel” leaves you feeling all warm if a little sad.

Available for download from Wise Blood Industries.
