Golden Grrrls. Good name for a three strong Glasgow band doing the lo-fi guitar thing. “Beaches” has indie boy vocals tiptoeing through fuzzy but simultaneously twee guitars, ultra sweet female harmonies and lovingly mistimed drums. Even though that description doesn’t sound like it, this song is actually rather charming.
“Date It” continues in much the same way if a little punchier in delivery and it seems to be something of a homage in style to veteran tank top bands like The Pastels. History doth indeed repeat itself in often mysterious ways.
Golden Grrrls clearly aren’t in the business of setting new musical trends but it is hard not to like them. The sound quality of the vinyl was pretty dire though.
