It was pressed on a fairly revolting shade of yellowy gold so I had to buy it. Hence, Puro Instinct’s single “Stilyagi” made it on to the turntable at Bluesbunny Towers so that it could be declared a business expense. You think I do this for love?

Hum and hiss and that worrying moment of “did the stylus skip?” introduce “Stilyagi”. With female vocals in that indistinct indie girl way that tussle with the paralleled guitar, “ Stilyagi” is like eighties’ powerpop caught up in bad company and ending up in a short but sweet battle between cute and cool.  Duly, and for reasons best known to my encyclopaedic knowledge of musical near misses [hey, good pun! – Ed], Swimming With Sharks popped straight into my mind [plenty of space in there anyway – Ed].

I have to admit to getting worried about my current obsession with girls and their guitars but “Put Medved to Bedved” might just help to break the cycle. Weird samples over a somewhat Germanic sounding electro loop kind of makes you wonder if ambient is the new black. No? How about a fairly revolting shade of yellowy gold as the new black? Works for me!
