It’s more than a bit worrying when all the performers that you were preparing to compare an artist to are actually mentioned in the press release but that was the case with Howard James Kenny. On his album “Shelter Songs”, he’s a bit Mogwai and he’s a bit Sigur Rós and he’s a bit struggling with matters of individuality.

Strolling through an album at such a leisurely pace that you have to draw the conclusion that his aim was not to entertain but to impress us with just so intense and serious an artist he is, Mr Kenny easily induces disinterest and, after the third play, I had to admit that I was unable to recall any of the songs.

I’m not sure if anyone out there actually buys music so that they can so easily ignore it but if there is then this album is just what you have been looking for.
