So you read the press release and you find out that Troy Lindsey is a world travelling helicopter mechanic and you expect, or perhaps suspect, that all sorts of cultural influences would float to the surface in his music. However, that didn’t turn out to be the case and “Ride Across The Sun” would suggest  that Mr Lindsey is, in fact, a son of the south as Southern rock is pretty much where he is at.

Not that that is a particularly bad thing as Mr Lindsay and his musical cohorts know how to rock out when they need to, such as on “South Side of Hell”, and to fire up the flames, such as on “Tell It Like It Is” (featuring the otherwise underused vocals of Kristen McCarney), while the lyrics reinforce a solidly spiritual direction often seen in that genre. Admittedly, Mr Lindsey does struggle a bit with the vocals on the slower songs but, overall, he does a perfectly respectable job.

“Ride Across The Sun” is an enjoyable album that would particularly interest those of you interested in the mellower side of rock

Bonus points were awarded for the back cover photograph that features our Mr Lindsey – with his trusty acoustic guitar – suffering for his art by standing ankle deep in a river while his daughter gets to sit in said river. With photographers like that, who needs enemies?
