The world is a harsh place full of discontent and unfortunate facial hair. Fortunately for us, Mother Nature balances this inequity with the Porch Song Anthology for surely there is nothing more soothing to the soul than their musical meanderings.

It is abundantly clear that the Porch Song Anthology are a cure for stress. With but the subtlest of backing from the rest of the band, the melancholy elegance of Rachel Devine’s voice tugs at the heartstrings throughout “Late Mournings” and, as she wistfully delivers “I Knew You Would Break My Heart”, I was moved to shout out that I, at least, would never break her heart. No, I would buy her shoes and make her happy. “Oh Little Star”, in comparison, is something of an emotional lightweight but admittedly it sounds just like a traditional folk song should.

You’d have to look far and wide to find  a band that does understatement as well as the Porch Song Anthology and you’d also have to look far and wide to find a voice as endearing as Rachel Devine has.
