So, what have we here? A rock band from Northern Ireland going by the name of Mojo Fury is what. Note that I said a rock band and not a metal band or – God forbid – another pretty boy indie rock band. Time to go large!
And so it was with this band’s album “Visiting Hours of a Travelling Circus”. Mojo Fury have got their moves down here and go places where The View have never been. So what makes this band stand out from the crowd? There’s the strength of character to stay away from the loud button and throw in dynamic contrasts instead (check the subtle use of horns in “Pill Pigeon Is An Orange Wheel” for an example) . They also write big songs with the swaggering, floor stomping “What a Secret” annihilating anything that a floppy fringed indie rocker could ever come up with. That’s the best thing about this band when I think about it. With the mark of intelligence so clearly stamped on their music, they could easily scale themselves all the way up into a stadium but still endear themselves to more educated ears.
Mojo Fury are a band that deserves to go places.
