Seems like they do the sledgehammer rock in France too if this album from Cognac based duo Gâtechien - Laurent Paradot  (bass /vocals) and Florian Belaud (drums) - are anything to go by. Their album “4” is like a stripped out, primitive history of rock music.

“Bonjour Mademoiselle” is almost funky enough to be a leather clad version of Graham Central station but with all slickness replaced by a near primal approach to driving out the demon riffs. That brutality and primitiveness extends to the rest of the songs on this album as well with “Tour De Force” crashing about the room in a way that a Seattle grungster would appreciate.

As the album progresses, it gets steadily more deranged with the vocals on “Cinq-à-Sept” alternating between nihilistic rants and stadium chants and although “Cliché, for the most part, displays a degree of subtlety unseen elsewhere it still feels balanced at the edge of sanity.

So, and especially considering that there are only two guys, there is an impressive impact to what Gâtechien have given us with this album.  They punch well above their weight and provide more than enough incentive to turn that volume up to 11.
