Not a band to hide behind a glossy production, Southern Culture on the Rocks give us a raw, ragged snapshot of one of their live performances. On the evidence of our bunny ears, it must be have been an excellent, sweat inducing night.

White trash icons are the target of many songs. "Liquored Up and Lacquered Down" is an ode to big hair whilst the "mullet of the muscle car world" gets it in "69 El Camino".  "Hittin' on Nothin'" is sung by Mary Huff with the kind of bad attitude that would make a midnight truck stop waitress proud. "Doublewide" is driven by the manic, shuffling beat of Dave Hartman. With Rick Miller playing the kind of guitar that would have made Dick Dale proud, the band tear off into the sunset with the sonic drag race that is "Meximelt". Surely the roof must have been blown off.

We should also mention the CD packaging. Open up the gatefold sleeve and up pops a cut out of the band. That sort of took us back to children's books where lions and tigers jumped out at us in the name of education. Likewise, this album will jump right out of its sleeve into your CD player. Crank it up and annoy the neighbours. It is the Christian thing to do.
