That’s what I like to see. An enterprising (dedicated/foolish/insane…delete as appropriate) company reissues a truly obscure 2006 CD-R on vinyl and takes it to the max by putting it out on heavyweight virgin vinyl. Nothing so mundane as biographical details accompany this mighty slab of musical strangeness but that’s probably part of the plan.

It’s hard to classify music such as this as Anahita (apparently Cara Burke and Helena Espvall as no one else gets a musical credit on the ultra shiny paste up sleeve featuring artwork by Paul Santoleri ) have nothing as mundane as a song here. With a sort of oblique take on soundtrack cues from some long lost, and no doubt east European arthouse movie, this duo casts shadows in the sunshine like few others would or should. Lyrics? I don’t think so, for in their expected place is something akin to a tone poem reinvented by György Ligeti.  Can’t say that the song titles mean anything either but they have a certain Transylvanian appeal, if you follow my meaning.

The pint though is that this conspiracy of arthouse obliqueness somehow works. It’s not an easy listen by any means but it engenders a curiously feeling of peace as its magic works upon you even if you want to leave the lights on when you go to bed.

The sound quality is perfectly reasonable considering the source materials although the B side has a few sonic anomalies than.  The vinyl mastering is credited on the sleeve to Patrick Klem and pressing quality was also good. This vinyl reissue is limited to 400 copies.
