It's always good to be reminded of something you had forgotten and, indeed, I had forgotten Swedish electro-rock band The Sounds. Now, they have an album out called "Something To Die For" so it seemed like a good time to reacquaint myself with their music.

It seemed like destination dance floor for the majority of this album with brutal plastic beats driving each song towards the flashing lights of celebrity DJ remixers.  You can imagine the title track getting chopped up for terpsichorean delight on cruise ships, for example, or a modified version of the relentless "Dance With The Devil" spinning the mirror balls in deepest, darkest Düsseldorf. Only the album's closer "Wish You Were Here" takes a subtler approach giving Maja Ivarsson the opportunity to show that she can actually sing.

That's pretty much sums up the problem here. As an album, "Something To Die For" is just plain dull with all the songs just crying out for somebody to do something interesting with them.

Swedish electro-rock should be something to get excited about, shouldn't it? Not this time.
