There will always be a demand for the blues and there will therefore always be a place for bands like Giles Robson & The Dirty Aces and their album "Crooked Heart Of Mine" is pretty much ideal for those who like their twelve bars to fall in a straight line.
Giles Robson handles vocal duties throughout but shines more when he takes to the harmonica and blows heat over the ice cool guitar of Filip Kozlowski. Of the songs, "Devil Led Evil" shines brightly with its easy going, old time charms and there is more than a nod to early Chicago electric blues to be found in the "Stick To The Promise". Familiarity can so easily breed contempt but not here.
Of course, it will most likely be Giles Robson's harmonica that will bring the buyers towards this album but there is more than enough musical skill to be found elsewhere in the band to ensure that "Crooked Heart Of Mine" will easily keep any mainstream blues fan happy.
