So you read the accompanying press release and you get that all too familiar feeling of dread when you see those words "singer" and "songwriter" in the same sentence. Only this time around, singer songwriter amounted to hiding your light under a bushel as Rosco Levee turned out to be a whole different kettle of fish.

For a start, Rosco Levee has assembled a bunch of supportive and talented musicians to aid him in transplanting southern rock into the southern part of England (from whence he came). The name of the game here is crowd pleasing rock 'n' roll songs that sound like they have been appropriated from the Allman Brothers or an early seventies Clapton album which is no bad thing in my book and our Mr Levee fills the vocal role with admirable aplomb providing the ideal mellow counterpoint to the cascading guitars of "Goldrush".  These songs, however, aren't just retro pastiches of the real thing as there is genuine affection for that period of musical history in evidence elsewhere such as the glorious up-tempo workout that goes by the name of "Freaky".

It's always a pleasure to hear quality musicianship and that is here in abundance with David Tettmar, in particular, making me believe once more in the power of a proper rock band. Rosco Levee make me want to drink beer and play air guitar so this EP easily gets the thumbs up.
