I reckon that there should be a new musical genre created and it should be called Festival Friendly. If there actually were such a genre then Denmark's The Breakers would easily be the leading proponents for with their self-titled album, The Breakers sound like just the kind of band that would make even a part time music fan wave his lighter in the air.
Right from the start with "Start The Show", their credentials as a good time party band are never in question. Of course, having Little Steven in the producer's chair and the legendary Bob Clearmountain doing the mixing pretty much guaranteed that this would be an album to be reckoned with and, despite being replete with influences all the way from rock 'n' roll to Little Steven himself ("Rainy Day"), you'll soon be having too much fun to notice such familiar things. A lot of the band's impact comes from the gravelly tones of Toke Nisted. He's got that telling it like it is approach to handling the vocals that stamps the lyrics with authenticity and he also manages a remarkably convincing Rod Stewart impersonation on "Baby Blue".
If you are of a certain age and you want your music to be fun then The Breakers are the band for you. Where did I put that lighter?
