Dumfries is such a nice quiet town. It's got a college and a cinema (with adjacent kebab shop). It also has something of an affinity for hard rock music and Witness The Fall are nothing if not a hard rock band with metal stylistic pretensions.
Whilst never straying far from the expectations of the genre, Witness The Fall nonetheless have no lack of energy or commitment. All six songs on this EP are taken at breakneck pace with the kind of frantic drumming that suggests the use of large amounts of amphetamines and it is perhaps unsurprising too that every riff from Chris Kensall or Tony Mitchell's guitars seems wrought from the finest cast iron. On top of this, Richard Nelson's vocals are clearly mixed with a bag of gravel but there are times when he forgets that sandpaper and threatens to use melody instead ("Victory" would be the best example).
However, Witness The Fall are not really a band that does subtlety and, as "Righteous Kill" shows, they aren't afraid to offend people either. Proof indeed that they have the qualities that a band like them should have.
