Rock 'n' roll is dangerous stuff. Or at least it used to be anyway. Elena Klaver, however, certainly isn't rock 'n' roll whether you use the here and now or the past as a reference point. Instead, Ms Klaver's album "Promise of Spring" is positively wholesome and probably good for you a part of a balanced musical diet.

In no less than eighteen songs, Ms Klaver projects the viewpoint of a better, more just, world where environmental concerns and (no doubt very polite) political protest are accepted.  To that end, she writes both of Native American activist Leonard Peltier ("Dakota Wind") and of ravens ("Raven") with equal sincerity. Whilst the tone of this album is undoubtedly coloured green, it is nonetheless well executed and sometimes quite moving with the simple and convincing "Peace with Earth" being the prime example.

In some ways, this is a difficult album for the hardcore reviewer to pass opinion on. Earnest in her outlook and presentation, Elena Klaver does nothing here that would embarrass or offend a Sunday school teacher yet still manages to get a good few of her songs into your heart.
