It's easy to be dismissive of a band like Stonesthrow. They sound exactly like you would expect a rock band from central Scotland to sound like for a start. Power chords? Check. Thudding drums? Check. Thoroughly emoted vocals? Check. Originality? That's clearly not the point.
I suppose that I should be glad that a band from this part of the world has the commercial common sense to realise that there is money to be made in being background music. After all, you need a lot of it for adverts, montages and Channel Five promo spots. To that end, Stonesthrow's cunning plan to write an album full of songs that can be readily chopped into 30 second segments is close to inspirational.
A field well ploughed is a field that should give a good harvest. With "Judas Or Rebel", Stonesthrow have fertilised that field.
