Suspire are one of the few interesting indie rock bands in Scotland with the kind of rhythmic competence and sense of the oblique that evades their competitors. However, being good doesn't have any relation to getting recognition  so the band have wisely went the way of the name producer and dragged in Gordy Goudie (of Echo and The Bunnymen) to polish them up for commercial consumption.

To that end, it is perhaps inevitable that there are few sonic surprises on "Salvation Sister".  Going some way against type, Suspire sound restrained here and, curiously, more than a bit mechanical with a decidedly retro feel dominated by a big guitar riff and metronomic percussion.

Keeping the song company on this single release is "Set In Stone". To my ears, this is a superior track with more of Suspire's trademark strobe lit edginess on display.

So there you have it. Suspire prove themselves capable of delivering a song that The Man would approve of and one that The 'Bunny would approve of. I've no idea if either of these two songs will put Suspire on the path to financial righteousness but I hope it works out that way for them.
