The music made me do it or at least it made me think about doing it anyway. It's as good a way to start a review as any other to say something like that especially when you have a no doubt well intentioned hybrid of folk and post punk from a Bristol band called The Bad Joke That Went Well to consider.
"The Meteors Are Coming" is their debut album and, like many debut albums, it nearly sparkles but more often falls foul of a lack of musical direction. There is an almost cavalier disregard for both sonic and technical excellence in evidence with many of the songs just running of steam before they can run their muddy course and, while Alexander Sutherland Studer's vocals do have a laconic charm to them, there is little else on display that will stick in the memory.
If these songs had been labelled as demos then it would have been a lot easier to be forgiving. However, they weren't and that is unfortunately that.
