Another unprovoked but ultimately welcome assault from the east coasters manifests itself in the shape of this singe from Edinburgh jolly – oh the sarcasm - popsters Cancel The Astronauts. They throw three punches here leading off with "Seven Vices".

"Seven Vices" is clearly not the work of ruffians and vagabonds. Pulling a prize from the burrow of Frightened Rabbit, Matthew Riley runs at the song like a man with the future of the Scottish music industry resting heavy on his shoulders.  He's the man for the challenge though and easily transcends politeness and heads off into something of a dad dancing amalgam of drama and world weariness.

"Something Approaching" drops the tempo for but a moment before all of recent musical history gets distilled into three and a half minutes to illustrate this smart little tale of indeterminate obsession. "Playing Hard To Get" springs the least surprises but even then Cancel the Astronauts throw on a trench coat and pull out a pack of cigarettes before fading to black.

This is Scottish indie pop done with style and that, my friends with the unconvincing facial hair, is a far for common thing.
