Pause for a moment and wonder what counts as indie music in other countries. Perhaps a country such as Indonesia? Let me introduce you to Hoodie Woody Freaky. For the record, they claim to play acoustic pop but there is far more to this band than that limiting genre pigeonholing would suggest.
For one thing they hold the rhythm section together with nothing less than a human beatbox thus successfully transplanting the sound of the New York streets to sunnier climes. Sitting atop that that supporting musical structure are mellow voices and melodic acoustic guitars. It might sound like much when you put it down on paper but the result is near enough the distilled essence of summer with "Senyuman" evoking the likes of Jamiroquai such is its easy going elegance. Even when they abandon their native language, as in "Prison And Love", Hoodie Woody Freaky show surefootedness that many a better known band would be hard pushed to demonstrate.
"Story of The Early Days" makes for a welcome introduction to a band that imbues that feelgood feeling in all that they do.
