Ever wondered what a time travelling apocalypse would sound like? I don't mean retro with attitude either more a distillation, or perhaps fermentation, of eighties synth rock infused with something weightier from the dark recesses of the periodic table.

Like Morrissey on downers, Dave Cook attempts suicide in "Black Kisses" by diving into a pool of ennui and laconic self destruction. Only the song has a big riff, grinding synths and something approaching a very big chorus to stop him from actually drowning. Drama in a sub four minute chunk for the iPod generation.

By comparison, "Mushroom Cloud" seems almost trivial. Sure, it's got the digital moves, near sarcastic indie rock guitars but you just don't want to hit yourself with a hammer after listening to it. Perhaps that is Kick to Kill pandering to those who are fans of the Big Bang Theory?

You can get hammers cheap from your local pound shop, by the way.
