It's not all indie rock in Glasgow these days as Tanera Heights prove with their second EP "The Arrow's In Flight". Taking their cue from emotion rather than maximum volume, they show a bit of the class that is so often found lacking in their contemporaries.
"Your Control" starts with dated synth noises that seem to have escaped from an eighties science fiction movie while Colin Tarbat emotes over it all like Adele doing a Morrissey impersonation. This, by the way, works rather better than you would expect.
"They call It Monomania" is a rather more purposeful song. It is still a downbeat song, of course, but with no small amount of swagger on show to increase its impact. So much so that you could imagine this song being adopted by a beer drinking rock band. A very decent song indeed.
"You Fade" returns us to the land of science fiction movie music cues but what would normally be seen as synth pop revivalism rapidly transforms into stage worthy melodrama.
Unlike most of their contemporaries, Tanera Heights sound much bigger than they probably are. I don't mean they are the descendants of leprechauns either more that they display the attitude and, dare I say it, style that you need to make an impact on the casual listener these days. Tanera Heights are almost too good to be from Glasgow.
