Needle to the groove time again as long surviving Edinburgh band My Electric Love Affair release another vinyl single to boost their sporadic output. Not that we are talking a caffeine boost as this is the kind of band that has always managed to appear deep and thoughtful.

Taking "If I Lived Here I'd Be Home By Now" first, what we get here is more than mere lo-fi guitar pop as the song sounds like it has been dropped out of the skies and landed on its side on top of a backing track by The Fall with a smattering of psychedelic magic and drug crazed guitars thrown on top to overpower the vocals. Urban and simultaneously untidy, "If I Lived Here I'd Be Home By Now" isn't as much rough around the edges as simply anguished (but in a good way).

"Seventh Sense" sounds like a different band entirely – so different that I had to double check this wasn't a split release – and an altogether more controlled band at that. It is certainly not meant as an insult but, on this song, My Electric Love Affair bear more than a passing resemblance to seminal  late seventies Scottish indie post punk bands and those of you who know their musical history will thus know why that is not a bad thing.
