The Mademoiselle are a three piece band from Glasgow. With a spot of research, the names in the frame turn out to be Tyler Collins, Scott Blackwood and David Sneddon. So far, so normal. What turned not to be normal were the songs. Not that they are art house unusual or anything like that but more that they were actually good songs that have both immediacy and lasting value.
"Money" grumbles bleakly while portraying confusion through creative use of the guitar. Yes, we are way beyond the usual three chord play it loud and no one will notice wonder band here. "Stan and Lucy" pulls much the same trick, if more directly, but again the educated ear will detect that The Mademoiselle are a band with no fear of complexity with further proof being supplied by the brooding "Ware Bitch From Hell"
I hesitate to bundle The Mademoiselle into the post rock genre but I reckon that this band would find many friends amongst those normally disappointed by other bands in that particular genre. In fact, they show so much promise that I shall have to overcome my indolence and get out there and see what they can do in the live environment.
By the way, the EP is available as a free download from Bandcamp.
