Electronica is not a favourite genre of Bluesbunny. All a bit doom and gloom really. We therefore approached this 4 track release from Canadian band Stereomovers with some trepidation.
"Ozean" could indeed have come straight out of the New Order songbook. "Waiting" is the most radio friendly track with a catchy chorus. Sonically, "Love Is" is reminiscent of late period Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark but the recurring chant made us think of the Beatles "All You Need is Love". We know that sounds a bit odd, especially given the genre, but we thought that these guys had perhaps spent a fair amount of time playing old vinyl records. "Picture of You" was perhaps the weakest track, with the production being a bit too Pet Shop Boys for its own good.
Hidden behind the wall of electronica are some strong songwriting skills. We do actually like dark, brooding love songs and it doesn't matter how you present it, a good song is a good song. The verdict is, all things considered, that this EP is considerably better than we had anticipated. If they can bring some individuality to their sound then Stereomovers should do well.
