It is a thing of wonder to me how bands can so shamelessly drag up the ghosts of the past. That is, after all, what Italian trio Captain Mantell have done on their album "Ground Lift" as they time travel their way back to the American shopping malls of the eighties.

However, these revivalists of electro rock do a decent job here with thirteen songs that nicely capture the essence of the times (which, I assume, was their objective) and you wouldn't have to stretch your imagination too far to spot the Devo influences on many of these tracks or even a hint of The Tubes as robotically driven tune after tune escapes from this band's virtual PA system.

Of the songs, "Yesterday (Like The Beatles Say)" and "Why I'm Dead" stand out as the best candidates for an old fashioned 45rpm single and, taken as a whole, this is a buoyant and upbeat album.
