Dundee country rockers The Hazey Janes go the epic route with their new album. Well, maybe not U2 stadium style epic but there isn't much to keep a truck driver happy here either other than perhaps "The Darkness Ends". However, the signs are here for all to see that this is a band that have been getting in some weight training.
Take, for example, the bombastic quasi rock of "Carmelite". This is the kind of song that you would use to herald a planetary invasion. Or, since we are in an example giving mood, the melodious "Girl In The Night". That's a song that would be best used to invade the big country. The beat goes on, as they say, with the supremely confident "Wake To Guide Love" before the time comes for the big ballad "Paperhearts". You've got to have that big ballad, after all.
It is to their credit that The Hazey Janes have targeted American radio so precisely with this album. Will such an approach bring them success? Only time will tell.
