So you get handed a CD and told to play track 3. Then you get told to write some words on a song by a band that seems to court obscurity given the paucity of information about them. Still, the life of a reviewer is nothing if not a series of excuses to visit the pub. Oh, back to the song…

The song has a name – "Bubbles" – and it is by a band from Yorkshire band called The Conspirators who have collaborated on it with Dodgy lead guitarist Andy Miller. That pretty much deals with the available facts. But, I hear you say, is it any good? Actually it is in a child of Britpop way.

With some clever and tidy lyrics to bring a smile to your face - "I'm the singer in an instrumental band" is a prime example – duly delivered by a mellow male vocal suitably accompanied by some subtly layered harmonies, "Bubbles" hits the poptastic bullseye. An understated guitar riff helps to keep things moving along nicely with the end result sticking in your head long after it has left your ears.

All said, this single marks The Conspirators as clearly smarter than the average band.
