Scottish trash punk trio The Fnords break out the basement with their album "Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Fnords". Of course, they don't really want to break out of the basement as much as squeeze the basement into the grooves of a proper vinyl LP. That task has duly been completed.

Though sounding somewhat sterile compared to their down and dirty live performances, you can compensate for that at home by cranking the volume right up. In fact, to properly appreciate it, you'll have to. Never a band to stretch the limits of your patience, The Fnords' songs just fly by at full speed from the opener "Zombie Gogo Girl" to the psycho frustration of "Me" with that pounding surf beat competing with the equally upfront female vocals. Flip it over and it is more of the same- no bad thing - with the hot stalking "Scumbaby", the bitter "Non Verbal Adjective Agreement" and  the downright aggressive "Cauterise My Love" also  heavily seasoned with the band's no nonsense approach to getting that song to blow a hole in your eardrums.  It's a simple formula but they do it well.

Sound quality is variable with little evidence of any attempt at mastering and there is even a track by another band (the underground favourites The Hells) squeezed into the middle of size B for reasons unknown. Pressing quality was nonetheless fine.
