Father Murphy are, let's be honest, a bit strange. Maybe they were suffering from the side effects of one too many Dario Argento movies or maybe they are just plain strange. The press release calls them an "Italian weird rock trio" and that is as good a description of their stripped out, brooding minimalism as you will get. You could, however, also say they were children of dark metal who decided to follow the path to depression.

"Jesus" does start in a vaguely devotional kind of way but it is soon clear that there are dark forces at work with a distant and fragile female vocal accompanied by peals of thunder to make that point clear. This is the kind of music that pretty much defines creepy.

Available on split vinyl with a song by the splendidly named How Much Wood Would A Woodchuck Chuck If A Woodchuck Could Chuck Wood? from Avant Records.
