Yet another great collection of laid back Louisiana blues from Kenny Neal. The man is annoying talented, seeming as equally at ease on guitar and harmonica as he delivers his brand of quality blues.
A strong opening is provided by "I Smell Smoke" with Kenny's Telecaster to the fore; while with "Little Brother (Make a Way)" we have a superb mid tempo number with an autobiographical feel to it that is certainly one of the highlights. "What You Got" is another real standout track, a passionate slower song with a terrific organ backing that gives it a deep soul sound. On the up tempo side "Déjà Vu" is one that will get you tapping along, and "Living on Borrowed Time" is a solid piece of understated blues.
With a series of albums stretching back to 1988 there appears to be no let up in the consistency and quality of Kenny's music. Long may it continue.
