More Than Conquerors hail from Belfast. That might be important and it might not. Anyway, I'm musing on the concept of complexity (in case you cared) and I've noticed that More Than Conquerors have far more to offer than you would expect of four young boys. Like melody and substance, for instance.
There's five tracks on this EP and whilst "Oh My Son!" and "Bear Knuckle Fight" could be high end indie rock – if you average indie rocker actually had any ambition, of course – if it were not that unmistakeable feeling that this band weren't doing anything more than pretending to conform. Sure enough, "The Deer and The Fox" then draws from Admiral Fallow and even Frightened Rabbit but adds an intake of steroids to give the song purpose. "Hunting For The Whale, on the other hand, changes pace noticeably and could quite easily have been American given its sonic signature and lyrical content while rather more purposeful is "A Lion, A Man" which, I have to say this, is a song that struts with a confidence that you just wouldn't expect of such a young band.
More than Conquerors are a band on the up and up. This EP is the proof.
