So here we have Cascao & Lady Maru who are a electropop duo from Italy and their album "Gong!" makes for a distinctly good natured dance floor experience that transfers equally well into the daylight.
It's not that Cascao & Lady Maru strike for new ground here as connoisseurs of Italodisco will easily be able to name the stylistic parallels but none of that really matters. From, the dumb – and I do not mean that as an insult – charm of the robotic "Pink Strobe Lights" to the easy groove of "Tropical Tasting, this duo manage to make you smile whilst you tap your foot to that metronomic beat. More than just escapees from behind the turntables, they draw from more than the club scene lyrically too with many of their songs merging psychedelic influences with an oddball sense of humour over their berserk Talking Heads meets Stacey Q rhythms.
Given the spacious nature of the production, it isn't difficult to foresee that this album will be the subject of many a DJ remix. It also isn't difficult to work out that the good natured feel that Cascao & Lady Maru have created here will nonetheless shine through.
