It is indeed true that concept albums are thin on the ground these days and, in that respect, "Intergalactic Highway" by Tony Pappas and the Ghosts of Orion stands out from the crowd but in these days of minimal attention span, you have to wonder if anyone will actually understand the motivations of this musical opus.
That means no disrespect to Mr Pappas and his real and, no doubt, robotic cohorts for this is the kind of album that has clearly been lovingly crafted much like all those extended musical permutations once made incredibly popular by the likes of the Alan Parsons Project.
The theme here is a journey through space and, barring a few chants and sound samples, it is an instrumental journey. However, the honesty of the band's intent is clear as songs like "Faster Than Light" and "Martian Caravan" stride purposely through the cosmos.
If you like this sort of thing – and are probably of a certain age – then "Intergalactic Highway" might well rock your spaceship.
