Funk Police are French it would seem though whether that explains this cross cultural slice of endearingly misdirected dance floor funk is a matter for conjecture. Formed of members of AH Kraken and The Anals, this underground offering was undoubtedly borne of debauchery and illegal substances.
The words, such as they are, are demented rants like something Henry Rollins would belt out if his lederhosen were a tad too tight and he had gone way beyond metrosexual. Holding it all together, and therefore encroaching into sanity, are some deadly funk grooves with the robotic hypnotism of "You Always Win" and the sleazy "Horsefag" practically dragging you on to the dance floor at gunpoint. Even at their most determinedly groove stretching moments – "Immigrant Pekin Mambo Love Song", for example, there is something almost lovable about the Funk Police despite their desire for depravity.
I suppose I am saying that Funk Police, much like Tonetta before them, aim to shock but are actually far more capable, and therefore mainstream, than they purport to be. A cult band in the making? I wouldn't be at all surprised.
