It’s good to see that humour still has a place in the music business with A.B. Clyde & The Kitty Litters’ album “Smokin’ Catnip” providing the evidence.

If I wanted to summarise the feel of this album, I would say that it feels like the work of a singer songwriter who has transcended Billy Ray Cyrus covers and struck out instead for the land of quirky lyrics. Of course, television in days gone by was replete with jobbing songwriters being wry and relevant (I think they called it satire back then) but they are few and far between these days. The humour does verge towards poor taste with “Phone Sex” and “Sidney’s Kidneys” best illustrating that this is a band that would not be welcome in Disneyland.

Whilst inconsistent in his musical approach, A.B. Clyde and his The Kitty Litters should manage to bring a smile to your face with “Smokin’ Catnip”. I’ve no idea if an album like this has any commercial potential but, as long as you can laugh at life, you’re doing just fine. A.B. Clyde & The Kitty Litters seem to be doing just fine.
