With the early promise of his album “Lights Off Headphones On” now far behind him, Scottish singer songwriter Jack James strikes out with yet another album. Bleak and downbeat, his words are often clever if depressing but the careless performances suffer from verisimilitude suggesting Jack James is a man now totally disillusioned with his own lack of progress.
The end result is a thoroughly dull and uninspiring album that exudes not so much despair – which I assume was the aim – as self indulgence and I have to wonder if Mr James were to learn to play with others would his lot not be a better one? Otherwise, I would hazard a guess that his next album will be called something like “Going Home On A Citylink Bus” or maybe “Working Behind The Counter in Greggs Isn’t That Bad After All”.
