Big George continues the high standard that was set on his Black & Tan debut release ("Beggin' Ain't For Me") in 1998. We are treated to another fine collection of quality blues from the big man and his band who give us mixture of mainly original material along with a few covers.
We start well with the straight ahead rollicking blues of "St Paul Woman"; and with ""What You Got" he gives us a fine take on electrified Delta blues that John Lee Hooker would have been proud of. He displays his ability to interpret the material of others with Jimmy Reed's "I Found True Love". He then repeats it to spectacular effect on "Tell Me" (a cover of the Walter Horton song) with as good a piece of solid old style blues that you are likely to come across.
This is more excellent blues with a good blend of traditional and contemporary styles. If he keeps continuing in this vein is surely destined to become a blues stalwart of the future. And let's be honest, we are certainly in need of a few of those at the moment.
