Pause for a moment and consider the obliqueness of a band like Fat Janitor. It’s an it’s not the song but the impact kind of thing. Sure, you get the odd vocal interjection but it’s all really in the concentrated post rock groove. Not that you are likely to find a groove in the wild in these digital days but you (might) get the point.

Sounding altogether more capable than your average we’re so great that only our mum likes us Glasgow band, Fat Janitor show themselves to be a band of deep sonic concentration determined to make a maximum volume impact upon your psyche. God knows what would happen to your mind if you encountered this little album whilst on the class A express train to waking in the gutter but I would think that the twisted all out of shape “Human Sandbags” would easily provide you with a valid alternative to a holiday in Iraq or that inevitable spell in rehabilitation.  As for the tempo stumbling magnificence of “French Winger”, there is meaning in that demented post rock swagger.

Fat Janitor are not at the end of their journey yet but, equally, they’re not at the start either and they actually diverted me from thinking about Holly (who?) Valance for a good twenty minutes.  Mind you, even Holly (much prettier than a kangaroo) Valance wouldn’t get me to drink Fosters. Perspective and necessity make for strange bedfellows except in advertising.

Available as a free download from Bandcamp.
