Some records, or maybe just some bands, are quintessentially cool. Italian bands Vermillion Sands – even their name is cool – turn up the refrigeration with these two swingtastic examples of European power pop.

“Summer Melody” is all oddball guitars, white wine spritzers and zesty female vocals as it invokes the summer sunshine for its entire sub three minute running time. A pop song like pop songs used to be and that’s the truth.

“Sweet Bitter Winter”, as its title suggests, is a touch darker in tone but struts its stuff nonetheless in an unmistakably European way. Sweet stuff indeed.

Available as a limited edition vinyl single (what else?) from the Shit Music for Shit People website.
