Another band appears without warning or even the merest hint of biographical information. This time it is The New Fabian Society who, it would appear, hail from Glasgow. Judging by the songs on their EP “Exhibition Of Love”, that would seem to be true for they sound like the children of some shadow ridden post-industrial metropolis.
“Lost In Berlin” kicks off the EP with an extended post-industrial grind driving the song along towards the abyss until an actual melody makes an appearance and turns the song into an Underworld goes stoner pseudo anthem instead. “Necropolis” is similarly leisurely with a simple guitar riff and way back there vocals sending a message of reverb and mumbled incantations as if possessed of some nefarious purpose. “Devious Minds”, on the other hand, is altogether more energetic even if it, as it turns out, has nowhere to run to
.
Although somewhat bleak, The New Fabian Society have made a good attempt at establishing their own sonic signature here and I wouldn’t be too surprised if they eventually turned out to be too good to have come from Glasgow.
The EP is available from Bandcamp.
