Many good things come from Crieff – admittedly I can’t actually name any – but I am sure that one of them would be Day of Days whose EP “Chances of Life” is the subject of these words.
Five songs are what you get and although none of the songs are memorable in themselves, there is much more style and therefore enjoyment to be found in their performance with the highlight being vocalist Paul Petrie who attacks the songs with a near operatic fervour whilst being ably supported by his indie meet retro influenced band colleagues. “Fierce Monk”, for example, would fall over if it were not for the way it is heroically cast like a stray hand grenade into the ether. “Three”, on the other hands favours atmospherics over impact but gets the point across nonetheless.
This EP represents a promising start for this band. The light bulb of inspiration seems to be switched on so it will be interesting to see what they do next.
