Tokyo Rosenthal is a proper sing songwriter. He’s a teller of tales yet he’s perfectly capable of being topical when he feels the need. So, “What Did I Used to Be?” duly runs the gamut of current economic worries over the course of its four minutes in the rain. It is no political polemic though and turns more into an exercise in elegantly expressed despair over a supremely tasteful, inspired by high gloss Nashville, accompaniment.
Tokyo Rosenthal is a class act. He gets his point across without overdosing on sentiment or emotionalism because he’s just telling it like it is.
